Ashlyn's DOT cake

Okay, I had to talk Ashlyn into letting me make a cake for her this year. She either couldn't decide what kind of cake or she just didn't care about it. But she finally said she wanted green, blue and purple dots all over her cake in various sizes. Usually the kids are not allowed to watch me make her cake, but Ashlyn was standing by me the whole time saying, "It's fine, mom. Just be done with it." She's so funny.
I really like the "dot" look, but next time I might try using the star tip to fill in the circles. It would be alot more work, but I think it would look better. Nevertheless, Ashlyn was happy with it.

Watch out! This cake is under construction!
Well, it was supposed to be a Bob the Builder cake, but I couldn't find anything in the store that I wanted to put on the cake. So, we found this cute construction set that was perfect. Joey loved the cake and he actually loves playing with the construction set too.

My Sister's Hands CD cover

May 2007
While I was in the Relief Society Presidency I was asked to design the cover for a CD we were giving to the sisters for Mother's Day. After taking many photographs of the Relief Society Presidency's hands, we decided to take some pictures of Pam (a counselor) with her Mother in Law. They ended up being the perfect shots!

Miss Kilburn's Poster

April 2007
I was asked to make a poster for Ashlyn's 5th grade teacher, Miss Kilburn, for teacher appreciation week. This is what I came up with. I printed out jewels for the kids in the class to write a message on. The treasure box was filled with chocolate gold coins...and I hear those chocolate were gone within the first few minutes of school.
You Rock, Miss Kilburn!

Bug cake

April 2007
Bobby and Michael's 6th birthday

They had cupcakes decorated with bugs, spiders, and ants. Here is one of them below. I also hid gummy worms in the frosting and chocolate teddy grahams dirt.

Bug Balloons

April 2007
Bobby and Michael's 6th birthday
The boys wanted a bug birthday, with all sorts of creepy, crawly things...
I didn't plan too many decorations, but the room needed something. So I got out the balloons, scrapbook paper, and tape and made a bunch of bugs - spiders, bees, beetles, ladybugs and such. It was a lot of fun. There is no limit to the type of bugs you can make. My favorites are the bee and spider. All the kids that came to the party wanted to take a balloon home.

Conference Squares Activity

Here is a General Conference activity we created as a family. We took half sheets of paper (any size would work - depending on size of TV) and wrote church topics and principles at the top of each paper. We divided up the papers and had each of the kids draw and color a picture to go along with the church principle listed on the paper. Then we hung them all over the TV screen. When we watched conference, the kids are able to take off the papers as they hear the word said in the talks. It is fun to see if you can get all the papers off the TV before conference is over. It also helps the kids listen to the talks. We always give them a special treat if all the papers come off the TV during conference.
One time we had all the papers off the TV except one. It was called Word of Wisdom. We were down to the closing prayer and the person giving the prayer miraculously said, "Thank you for these words of wisdom..." The kids were so excited - we just had to count it!

Topic ideas: Prayer, tithing, prophet, Jesus, Holy Ghost, missionary, love, family, sacrament, faith, Joseph Smith, scriptures, service, temple, testimony, Sunday, baptism, church, etc.

There is no limit to the topics used. We always let the kids help us come up with the topics.

Lizzie McGuire Cake

October 2003
Ashlyn's 8th Birthday
Ashlyn had her first slumber party this year and she was so excited! She wanted a Lizzie McGuire cake so bad. I couldn't find anything Lizzie in the store, so I bought an assortment of "girlie" things to decorate it with. I also bought a simple cake decorating book and taught myself how to make these pretty swirls and flowers.

Tool cake

August 2003
Made for Papa's (my dad) birthday. He can fix just about anything, so I thought it would be appropriate to put tools on his cake.
